Jobs and the environment in which we work in is forever changing. Some jobs may change faster than others and in some if not all industries you might only be as good as the skills you possess.
But what skills do you need and how do you know if you are keeping up with the pace of your industry?
History has shown us that we have made incredible advancements in all kinds of industries, cars, computers, smart phones, etc… However, even though we now have robots and automated machinery, jobs haven’t gone anywhere. If anything they have gotten more complex and require more skills to preform them.
All this means is a commitment to learning…
So, what skills will you need to prepare yourself for a future in your industry?
First off you will need to have a mindset of growth and change. If you can embrace this as opposed to a static approach, you will be the one who excels and moves forward.
Secondly you will need to become more strategic. As some jobs, especially administrative ones, become more automated, you will need to focus more on what is important to the business itself.
Lastly as leaders, you will need to have employee engagement. Expectations of employees are greater than ever and as leaders need to encourage and inspire the best work out of your team.
These three general skills apply across all industries, remember too, your employees want authenticity. They want their managers to be open, faithful to their values, considerate, and committed to their sense of purpose.
Learning is one of the most empowering activities a person can engage and, with all this change comes wonderful opportunities. So, if you commit to learning and stay ahead of your industry, you’ll put yourself in position to reach your goals!
